ABOUT US
Since the launch of Đổi mới (Renovation) in 1986, Vietnam has become a middle-income country with dynamic market economy that is well integrated into the global economy. In the next 20 years, Vietnam is expected to be a modern and industrialized nation. To achieve this goal, the World Bank and the Ministry of Planning and Investment of Vietnam present various recommendations in their joint Vietnam 2035 report, including: (i) enabling economic modernization; (ii) improving the nation’s technological and innovative capacity; (iii) reshaping urban policies and investments; and (iv) charting an environmentally sustainable development path. Vietnam is, however, one of the top five countries which are the most vulnerable to climate change that includes raising strength and frequency of extreme weathers, natural disasters, sea level rise, and land erosions and slides. The actual adaptation measures are mainly related to the coastal zones, agriculture, water resources, energy, transportation, forestry, and human health. The sustainable development issues in Vietnam have been facing other important challenges such as financial crisis effects, fluctuations of food and energy prices, exhausting natural resources, environmental pollution, and wasteful and ineffective production and consumption. Vietnam also faces big problems in the domains of health, education, inequalities and corruption. Prosperous growth must combine policies pushing up the competitiveness of the economic management, health, education, but, in parallel, reducing inequalities and corruption. There might be a dilemma between favoring first green growth or other factors of a prosperous growth. This requires a dedicated forum for rethinking and reshaping the economic models, business practices, and R&D.
The Vietnam Sustainability Forum (VSF 2018) aims at providing an international exchange platform for various stakeholders including policymakers, academics, entrepreneurs, practitioners, and the NGOs to present, discuss and debate the worldwide visionary initiatives, practices, and trends for a harmonious society. Some sessions devote a particular focus on Vietnam with her uniqueness. Keynote speeches will be delivered during the plenary sessions by members of the Vietnamese Government to discuss on current Vietnam’s policies for a prosperous growth and internationally well-known economists to present a view on Sustainable Development. In addition, several workshops will be held on various topics. Dedicated time will be reserved for breaks and social events to facilitate discussions and networking between and among delegates with registration and completmentary fees.
The VSF 2018 is jointly organized by the Association of Vietnamese Scientists and Experts (AVSE Global) and the Academy of Policy and Development (APD) under the patronage of the Ministry of Planning and Investment of Vietnam.
