Professor Rao R. Bhavani is the Director of AMMACHI Labs, the human-computer-interaction research-and-development center at Amrita University and The Center for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment.
In addition to serving as Director, she also holds the UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment. She is an Advisor to and works closely with several state governments on their initiatives in the fields of technology for education and empowerment as well as the UN. She is also a contributing member of the IEEE Global Initiative Wellbeing Committee.
AMMACHI Labs pioneers research and development in technologies such as haptics, VR, AR, robotics and automation,in pedagogy towards skill development in the areas of TVET and 21st century skills.
The focus of research at the Center for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment as well as the UNESCO Chair, is on Vulnerability mapping using PAR, to inform design of optimal interventions that further the vision of women’s empowerment and gender equality, building towards inclusive sustainable development.
